North Dakota State University-Main Campus is a public land-grant research university located in Fargo, North Dakota. Founded as North Dakota Agricultural College, it serves as the state’s primary land-grant institution and is part of the North Dakota University System. During the early twentieth century, campus facilities grew steadily, including the construction of Old Main and other permanent academic buildings. In the decades that followed, North Dakota State University-Main Campus developed graduate and doctoral programs and increased its research capacity. In the twenty-first century, it achieved Carnegie R1 classification for very high research activity and continues to serve as a major public research university in Fargo, North Dakota.
