University at Buffalo

University at Buffalo is a public research university located in Buffalo and Amherst, New York. Officially named the State University of New York at Buffalo, it is one of the flagship institutions of the SUNY system. Founded in the 19th century, it has grown into a large research university offering a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs, including medicine, engineering, business, law, and the arts and sciences. University at Buffalo was founded in 1846 as a private medical college to serve the growing city of Buffalo, New York. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, additional professional schools were added, and the university developed into a broader institution known as the University of Buffalo. A major turning point in University at Buffalo history occurred in 1962, when it joined the State University of New York system and became a public university.
