History

Rutgers University-Camden traces its origins to 1926, when it was founded as the College of South Jersey and South Jersey Law School in Camden, New Jersey. Established to expand access to higher education in southern New Jersey, the institution served local students seeking professional and liberal arts education. In 1950, it formally joined Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and became Rutgers University-Camden, integrating into the statewide public university system.
