History

Palm Beach Atlantic University was founded in 1968 in West Palm Beach, Florida, by Jess C. Moody, pastor of the First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach. Established as Palm Beach Atlantic College, the institution began as a coeducational Christian liberal arts college, holding its first classes in downtown West Palm Beach in the fall of 1968. The first graduating class completed its studies in 1972, the same year the institution received regional accreditation. During the 1980s and 1990s, Palm Beach Atlantic University expanded its campus along the Intracoastal Waterway and broadened its academic offerings, adding graduate and professional programs. In 2002, Palm Beach Atlantic College officially became Palm Beach Atlantic University to reflect its growing scope. Over the decades, Palm Beach Atlantic University has developed additional campuses and expanded enrollment while maintaining its Christian mission and liberal arts foundation.
