La Salle University

La Salle University is a private, Catholic university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, it offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs across liberal arts, business, nursing and health sciences, education, and the sciences. The university is situated in the Logan neighborhood of northwest Philadelphia and serves a diverse student population from the region and beyond. La Salle University was founded in 1863 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and received its charter from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania during the Civil War era. Established to provide Catholic higher education within the city, La Salle began as La Salle College under the leadership of its first president, Brother Teliow Fackeldey, FSC. The institution relocated several times in the late nineteenth century before moving in 1930 to its current campus in northwest Philadelphia. Over the twentieth century, La Salle University expanded its academic offerings, introduced graduate programs, and transitioned to coeducation. In 1984, La Salle College formally became La Salle University, reflecting its broader mission and program growth. Today, La Salle University continues to develop its academic programs while maintaining its Lasallian educational tradition in Philadelphia.
