The senior-year timing trap nobody explains
"High school senior" means two different students. A rising senior finishes 11th grade in June and starts 12th grade in the fall. A graduating senior finishes 12th grade and starts college. Most summer programs written "for seniors" mean rising seniors, which excludes anyone graduating in June 2027. SEAP explicitly accepts graduating seniors; NASA SEES and MIT RSI do not.

What to do when the internship happens after you submit applications
Here is the structural weirdness of senior year: a Summer 2027 internship happens after nearly every admissions decision is made. That does not make it useless, and it does not make it dishonest to include.
1. List it as anticipated. The Common App activities section lets you indicate participation timing, including grades 12 and post-graduation. If you have applied but not heard, you can describe the activity accurately without claiming a result you do not have.

The November 1 problem
SEAP closes on the same day most Early Action and Early Decision applications are due. You cannot write a SEAP personal statement well during the last 72 hours of ED week. SIMR, GTRI, MSK HOPP and most NASA center placements do not provide housing. The application itself: personal statement, résumé and recommenders
The four-part personal statement these programs ask for

Asking a STEM teacher in October: the timeline
October is when your teachers are writing 20 college recommendations. Asking for a 21st letter without a plan gets you a rushed one.
