History

William Jessup University was founded in 1939 in San Jose, California, during the Great Depression. The institution began as San Jose Bible College when William L. Jessup opened classes on September 20, 1939, with fourteen students focused on biblical studies and preparation for church vocations ([jessup.edu](https://jessup.edu/about/history/?utm_source=openai)).
