History

University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana traces its origins to 1965, when Red River Vocational-Technical School was established in Hope, Arkansas, to expand vocational education in the region. The institution was led by founding director J. W. Rowe Jr., who served from 1965 to 1987 and helped shape its early development. In 1991, the school became Red River Technical College, reflecting broader academic offerings. Following legislation supporting the consolidation of two-year institutions, the college joined the University of Arkansas System on July 1, 1996, and was renamed the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope. In 2012, the institution expanded with a campus in Texarkana, Arkansas. In 2019, it adopted the name University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana to reflect its dual-campus identity. Today, University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana continues to provide transfer degrees, technical programs, and workforce training in southwest Arkansas.
