History

Simpson University was founded in 1921 in Seattle, Washington, as Simpson Bible Institute. Established by W.W. Newberry, who served as its first president, the school was created to promote spiritual growth and prepare students for Christian service, particularly within the Christian and Missionary Alliance. In 1955, the institution relocated to San Francisco and became Simpson Bible College, later expanding its academic offerings beyond two-year programs. By 1971, it adopted the name Simpson College as it developed broader liberal arts and professional degree programs. In 1989, Simpson University moved to its present campus in Redding, California, marking a significant phase of physical and academic growth. In 2004, the institution officially became Simpson University, reflecting its expanded graduate programs and institutional development. Today, Simpson University continues to operate as a private Christian university serving students in Northern California and beyond.
