History

Point University was founded in 1937 as Atlanta Christian College in East Point, Georgia, by Judge T. O. Hathcock to educate ministers and church leaders within the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ. George W. BonDurant served as the institution’s first president, guiding its early development. For decades, Atlanta Christian College focused primarily on biblical training before gradually expanding its academic programs. In 1965, it became accredited by the American Association of Bible Colleges, and in 1990 it received regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. In 2011, Atlanta Christian College officially changed its name to Point University. The following year, Point University relocated its main residential campus to West Point, Georgia. In 2017, the university launched its first graduate programs, reflecting its continued institutional growth and academic expansion.
