Midwestern University-Downers Grove traces its origins to 1900, when it was founded in Chicago as the American College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery by J. Martin Littlejohn. It was among the early institutions to grant the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. In 1913, the school became the Chicago College of Osteopathy, later known as the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 1986, the institution relocated from Chicago to a new campus in Downers Grove, Illinois, marking a major transition in its development. During the early 1990s, additional academic units were established, including the Chicago College of Pharmacy and the College of Health Sciences. In 1993, these programs were unified under the name Midwestern University. Since then, Midwestern University-Downers Grove has expanded its academic offerings, clinical facilities, and campus infrastructure, evolving into a comprehensive graduate institution focused on healthcare education.
