Goodwin University

Goodwin University is a private nonprofit university located in East Hartford, Connecticut. Goodwin University was founded in 1962 in East Hartford, Connecticut, as the Data Institute Business School, a small institution focused on career-oriented business education. In 1999, the school was renamed Goodwin College, reflecting an expansion of academic offerings beyond its original business programs. Under the leadership of founding president Mark E. Scheinberg, the institution broadened its mission to serve working adults and first-generation students through flexible scheduling and workforce-focused degrees. Over the following decades, Goodwin College added programs in nursing, health sciences, education, manufacturing, and public safety. In 2020, Goodwin College officially became Goodwin University, recognizing its growth in academic scope and graduate-level offerings. In 2021, Goodwin University expanded further through the acquisition of the University of Bridgeport, marking a significant development in its institutional evolution and regional presence.
