History

Faulkner University was founded in 1942 in Montgomery, Alabama, as Montgomery Bible School by Rex Turner, Leonard Johnson, and Joe Greer. Established to provide Christian education rooted in the Churches of Christ tradition, the institution initially focused on biblical studies and ministry training. In 1953, the school was renamed Alabama Christian College as it expanded its academic offerings. The college relocated to its present campus on Atlanta Highway in 1965, marking a significant period of growth. During the 1970s, satellite campuses were opened in several Alabama cities to broaden access to higher education. In 1985, Alabama Christian College became Faulkner University, honoring longtime supporter James H. Faulkner. Over time, Faulkner University developed into a comprehensive institution offering associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, including the establishment of the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, shaping its modern identity.
