California State University-Stanislaus

California State University-Stanislaus is a public university located in Turlock, California, in the state’s Central Valley. It is part of the California State University system and serves a diverse student population, including many first-generation college students. California State University-Stanislaus was founded in 1957 when the California State Legislature established Stanislaus State College as part of a major expansion of the California State University system. The institution opened its doors to students in 1960, initially holding classes at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds in Turlock, California. In 1965, the campus moved to its permanent site on Monte Vista Avenue. Under founding president J. Burton Vasché, the college developed its early academic programs and secured accreditation in 1964. In 1986, it was granted university status and officially renamed California State University-Stanislaus. During the following decades, the university expanded graduate offerings, established a presence in Stockton beginning in 1974, and later opened a permanent Stockton Campus in 1998. Today, California State University-Stanislaus continues to serve the Central Valley with undergraduate and graduate education focused on regional needs.
