History

Arkansas State University Three Rivers was established in 1969 as Ouachita Vocational Technical School under the authority of the Arkansas State Board of Education. The school opened its doors to students in January 1972, initially offering certificate programs focused on workforce training in fields such as automotive repair and cosmetology. In 1991, following statewide higher education reforms, the institution was reorganized as Ouachita Technical College and began offering associate degree programs alongside technical training. As academic offerings expanded, the college adopted the name College of the Ouachitas in 2011 to reflect its broader mission. On January 1, 2020, College of the Ouachitas officially joined the Arkansas State University System and became Arkansas State University Three Rivers. Today, Arkansas State University Three Rivers continues to serve Malvern and surrounding communities with associate degrees, technical education, and workforce development programs.
