History

Arizona Christian University was founded in 1960 in Phoenix, Arizona, as Southwestern Conservative Baptist Bible College. Established to prepare students for vocational ministry and missions, the institution initially focused on biblical studies and Christian ministry training. In 1972, it received accreditation from the Association for Biblical Higher Education, and in 1992 it achieved regional accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission. The school later became Southwestern College and broadened its academic offerings beyond ministry programs. In 2007, it transitioned to a non-denominational Christian identity. In January 2011, Southwestern College officially became Arizona Christian University, reflecting its expanded liberal arts mission. In 2019, Arizona Christian University relocated to a larger campus in Glendale, marking a significant step in its institutional growth and development.
