Amridge University

Amridge University is a private, coeducational university in Montgomery, Alabama, affiliated with the Churches of Christ. Founded in 1967, the institution historically focused on theological education and ministry training and continues that mission through its Turner School of Theology. Over time, Amridge University expanded its academic offerings to include undergraduate and graduate programs in business, education, leadership, and human services. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and is known for its emphasis on distance and online education, serving working adults, ministry leaders, and students seeking flexible degree options grounded in a Christian framework.

Amridge University was founded in 1967 in Montgomery, Alabama, as the Alabama Christian School of Religion, emerging from earlier educational efforts connected to Montgomery Bible School and Alabama Christian College. Established to provide theological education and train ministers, the institution initially focused on Bible and Christian counseling programs. Under the leadership of its first president, Rex Allwin Turner Sr., Amridge University developed seminary-level instruction and expanded degree offerings. In 1954 its predecessor had been renamed Alabama Christian College, and in the decades that followed the institution underwent several structural changes. It later adopted the names Southern Christian University and Regions University before becoming Amridge University in 2008. Throughout its history, Amridge University has expanded into online and distance education, broadening access to undergraduate and graduate programs while maintaining its Christian heritage and base in Montgomery.
