Why most pages you'll find still say 24% to 25%

Because they are quoting older cycles and nobody has folded the fall 2026 releases in yet. College Transitions publishes 25.4% from fall 2024. Dewey Smart and TransferGoat publish 24.2% and 24.0% from fall 2025. CampusReel is still computing a rate off 2019 data. None of them are lying; they are just answering a question about a cycle that closed one, two or seven years ago.

What the rate does and doesn't predict about your file

A 20% campus-wide rate is a denominator problem, not a description of your odds. Berkeley admits into eight undergraduate colleges with wildly different bars, gives written priority to California community college students, and admitted 41 domestic non-resident transfers in the entire fall 2026 cycle. Your personal rate is almost certainly not 20%. It is higher or lower, and the rest of this page is about figuring out which.

Three cycles of data: the rate is moving, and it's moving down

Berkeley's transfer admit rate fell from roughly 25% (fall 2024) to 24% (fall 2025) to about 20% (fall 2026). The gap comes from snapshot timing: UC systemwide tables, campus CDS filings and campus press releases are pulled on different dates, and late residency reclassifications and application withdrawals move the counts slightly. The honest read is "about 24% for fall 2025." Anyone quoting two decimal places is overselling the precision.

Transfer vs. first-year: the gap is real, the reason is capacity

Berkeley's first-year admit rate has sat near 11% for three cycles. Even at 20%, the transfer door is roughly 1.8 times wider. That gap exists for two structural reasons, and neither one is "a lower bar."

First, the transfer pool is pre-filtered. A high school junior with a 2.9 can still fire off a UC application. The five different "Berkeley transfer acceptance rates" and which one is yours

There is no single Berkeley transfer rate. There are at least five, and they range from roughly 38% to under 1% depending on where you are applying from and what you are applying into. Campus-wide 20% is the weakest of the five for predicting your outcome.

One caveat worth stating plainly: the residency numbers are admit counts, not admit rates, because per-campus transfer applicant counts by residency are not published at the same granularity. They still tell you almost everything you need to know about the composition of the class.

Rate 5 deserves its own paragraph

The Chronicle's 2026 data project pulled UC admissions data for every California community college and found the spread is not noise. Cabrillo College sent transfers to Berkeley at roughly 38% for fall 2025. Laney College and Monterey Peninsula College both landed near 37%. Campus-wide the figure was about 25%. That 41 is not a typo and it is the single least-published fact on this topic. Read it carefully, though: it is a count, not a rate. Few out-of-state students apply, so the denominator is small too. Eligibility vs. competitiveness: the requirements checklist
